Our Story
¡Saludos estimadas familias!
Before Cynthia Mendez Reimann began childcare services in 2007, the journey started by searching for a preschool for her own two children. Cynthia and her partner considered what they wanted for their children: exposure to various cultures, languages, and experiences. As educators, they believed in fostering a love for learning and discovery. More than anything, they wanted a program where every staff member genuinely cared for and loved all children. While they found programs that tried to meet these criteria, none seemed to encompass everything they desired, and most were beyond their financial reach. This led to the formation of a play-based and cultural immersion (dual language) preschool, aiming to offer the type of program they wanted for their own children.
After five years of running a home-based daycare, Cynthia realized that a dedicated childcare center would provide a better program, offering students the resources they deserve in a space designed just for them. The challenge was to create a center that maintained the nurturing environment of her home. The goal was to establish a program infused with the same love Cynthia experienced at her grandmother’s home, la casa de mi abuela.
This space would evoke memories of Cynthia playing with her cousins, running around abuela’s open-air patio, la azotea, while watching her cook with a big smile, singing popular Mexican songs. The aromas of traditional Mexican cuisine filled the air, radiating joy. Abuela wore a traditional hand-woven apron while cooking. Cynthia and her cousins would chase hens on the rooftop and enjoy fresh chicken mole with chilaquiles. They also fondly remember picking guavas from the backyard trees and selling them to neighbors, as well as the taste of coyules dipped in brown sugar, el arníbar.
The new center aims to replicate this sense of family, culture, and adventure—a place where children can discover, laugh, and develop a love for learning. It’s a second home where they feel confident, loved, valued, and empowered. Together, we will celebrate culture, tradition, and community!
Located at 5201 Park Blvd, Piedmont, CA 94611, Academia de Mi Abuela (AMA)—a culturally rich Spanish immersion childcare center—invites families to tour the beautiful space and learn more about its programs. Now enrolling students ages 18 months to 8 years.
Cynthia looks forward to welcoming your family and offering an extraordinary childcare experience filled with fun, engaging, hands-on, and culturally immersive learning. ¡Adelante!
