SCHOOL-WIDE SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
CURRICULUM, PART ONE: JUNE 2018 (school-wide)

AMA Mission: To provide a nurturing, home-like and culturally rich learning environment for our children and families.  To prepare students for kindergarten entry by acquiring proficient self-care, oral language, and socio-emotional development skills.

Curriculum Theme: Insects and Plants

Student Learning Goals: To teach students about multiple bugs and plant life surrounding our school neighborhood.  Learning will be reinforced by way of partner/teacher directed reading, audio stories, observation, and arts & crafts.  We seek to spark children’s curiosity by facilitating opportunities for exploring nature as they interact with bugs, plant life, and other animals in our neighborhood.

Students will also develop a variety of skills in the following areas:

Socio-emotional: Shares and respects the rights of others (persons, insects, & plant life)

Language: Actively participates in conversation in Spanish, learning new vocabulary (traffic norms, weather patterns, flower, and insect names)

Physical: Coordinates eye-hand movement, increase attention span @circle/art/reading/writing, and self-discipline/awareness 

Cognitive:

    • Learning and Problem Solving:
    • observes objects and events with curiosity
    • Apply knowledge and experience to a new context.
    • Making connections between home life and school
    • Activating prior knowledge about plants and insects
    • literacy development via learning concepts of print (partner reading & read aloud by a teacher)
    • Logical Thinking:
  • Classifies, compares and measures objects.

Pre-K Foundation Goals: #1. (strand) Scientific Inquiry, 1.0-2.0 = observation & investigation, documentation & communication (sub strand), #2.  Life Sciences, 1.0-2.0 = properties & characteristics & changes in living things, Earth Science, 1.0-2.0 = properties & characteristics of earth materials & objects and changes in the earth
